La Fin de La Semaine Essay Question: Special "La Crèmes de la Crèmes " Edition

Okay, we're back -- safe and sound and both physically and spiritually refreshed -- from our vacation in France.

And consequently raring to go with more of the insouciant postings you've come to expect from this here blog.

Which leads us inexorably to today's business. To wit:

...and the members of a freaking fantastic supergroup you would assemble from currently alive pop/rock/folk/jazz/pop/r&b musicians -- of any gender or age -- would be...???

Discuss.

BTW, kudos to a certain Shady Dame of my acquaintance for giving me the above idea. As usual, she's working cheap, I'll tell you that for free.

And in case you're wondering -- my candidates for such a supergroup would be these guys.

I bring all this up because, as somebody pointed out to me recently, we haven't had any supergroups in what seems like ages, so certainly the time is ripe.

I mean seriously -- can you imagine how great those dudes would be together as a band, even in their current ancient states?

Alrighty then -- who would YOUR choices be?

And have a great weekend, everybody!!!

    1. I'm unfamiliar with Billie Strings, but I'll do the research, as todays youngs are wont to say. 😎

  3. I can't top your original selection. It almost makes too much sense, like, hurry up and do that already!

I'd go with Andy Partridge, Neil Finn, Elvis Costello on guitars, Joe Jackson on keys, Steve Kilbey on bass, and Pete Thomas on drums

I'm guessing Neil Finn sings.... nice group there Guy! I've been stuck on Nick Lowe - and......................? Can't finish the band with the Basher.

  4. This one's obvious to me.

Have Carl Palmer ( ... since Emerson and Lake have both passed and he seemingly now has nothing better to do) replace the late Neal Peart of Rush ( ... since that band is in need of a new and suitably flashy drummer).

  9. Robert Pollard from Guided By Voices on guitar, Marshall Crenshaw on second guitar, Glen Burtnick or Graham Maby on bass and Dennis Diken on drums. They record songs that are very Beatles- and Who-influenced but are in fact their own songs.

Once again Billy Strings on guitar. Jerry Douglas, dobro - Joe Fick, slap bass - Gary Morse, pedal steel - Jerry Hahn, percussion (string cheese incident)
Vocals - hows about Dwight Yoakim and Marty Stuart on vocals -( you get in addition one of the best mandolin players on the planet )

  14. Rundgren and Nelson have the same sensibilitys - that would be an interesting collaboration - understanding Todd, I'm surprised he never thought of it. After all he played with Daryl Hall

  17. Gene Simmons, Mike Love, Don Henley, and Ted Nugent as... "The Biggest Assholes In Rock 'n Roll History"!
They were a larger band when Chuck Berry and Lou Reed were still alive.
I would only like to see them get together so I could heckle all of them at once outside a recording studio or a concert hall. No way I'd ever pay to see them.
