Your Thursday Moment of Words Absolutely Freaking Fail Me
From 1963, please enjoy Ross McManus and his rousing rendition of the venerable Weavers/Peter Paul and Mary/Trini Lopez hit "If I Had a Hammer."
And in case you're wondering, Ross is -- wait for it -- Elvis Costello's dad.
Have I mentioned that words absolutely freaking fail me?
He also recorded as "Day" Costello (wth?) and recorded "Long and Winding Road" under this name. Look to the internet for a Swedish release with picture sleeve. He looks like a cross between Colin Blunstone and Austin Powers.
I remember an interview with Elvis saying that due to his dad's profession he got Beatles acetates (used as demos for Joe Loss) )before they reached the general public.
I've loved this clip for ages! Surprised it never made it your way until now.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised too.
ReplyDeleteWow. And a great version too! Declan looks just like his dad.
ReplyDeleteAnd they have the same stage moves!!! 😎

I think I first saw this on Stephan Colbert show. I think it was about the time Elvis released his memoir. Always a good time to see.
ReplyDeleteI'm speechless. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Al
Reminds me of Peter Sellers with a dash of Monty Python
ReplyDeleteCapt.Al took the words right outta my mouth
