I think we can all agree that the above is a wonderfully kick-ass Blondie-derived rock-and-roll record (with an actual guitar solo!!!). And that the video -- which would have been considered no big deal/utterly inoffensive, say, 20 years ago -- now seems unexpectedly transgressive, doubtless due to the newly repressive cultural climate we're all enduring in the age of President Inepstein.
You can watch Kid Sistr's hilarious origin story over HERE; they don't seem to have an official website, but for you old people who still use Facebook you can find out more about them at their FB page OVER HERE.
All of which leads us, inexorably. to the subject of today's business at hand. To wit:
...and your all-time favorite (or least favorite) all-or-mostly-all lady rock band is...?
Discuss.
And in case you're wondering, my faves are these kids. Now and in perpetuity.
And let me just add that it is one of the great regrets of my adult life that I never got to see them in person.
Alrighty then -- who would YOUR choices be?
And have a great weekend, everybody!!!
Can't argue with The Bangles (got to meet Vicki recently with her hubby). How about these ladies- they have 3 dudes backing them up, but checkout Dea Matrona: https://youtu.be/zWyrnDhxB5k?si=_IsRXOstWF0Fg5Vn
ReplyDeleteThey rub me the wrong way. Can't put my finger on why, but they do.
DeleteWhen they were three teen lassies, they really brought the joy. Their most recent songs have gone darker and I hope their upcoming sophomore album is more upbeat. Still, Orlaith and Mollie are gorgeous and talented and deserve a breakthrough.
DeleteThere's a great power trio from Mexico
ReplyDeleteThe Warning - these 3 ladies as they say,
kick out the jam
It's a tie. The Runaways and Fanny.
ReplyDeleteJust so long as you didn't nominate Bertha. 😎
DeleteAnd Fanny falls in the "Lord knows I've tried" category for me. Easy to respect, impossible to love. 😎
DeleteYes, those bands were trailblazers. But let's face it, the Runaways had ONE song.
DeleteYou had to see Fanny live. And the Runaways had Lita Ford, Joan Jett, and three songs. You guys are just picky.
DeleteAgree on Bangles. Hinds from Spain are also pretty good. Finally, back in the day, Kleenex/Liliput had their moments.

ReplyDeleteNo love for the Haim sisters?
ReplyDeleteHaim and Wet Leg
Deleteand as to Fanny. Think they get credit just for the era they were in when it was all a guys club. Competent, but never wrote any memorable originals. But they did set and example for those to follow-props for that.
ReplyDeleteNever say never. They wrote Charity Ball.
DeleteI saw Argentine duo (+ drummer boy) Pacifica last month and I gotta tell you that they are seriously good. They have two albums out and every last track is constructed with multiple hooks. No filler.
ReplyDeleteHonorable mention to the Donnas and L7.
Bangles, yes, always.
ReplyDeleteI like the Go-Go's too. I've seen Larkin Poe a few times, opening for Elvis Costello, and they're solidly in the 'respect not love' category. I've enjoyed The Pandoras live a few times
The Friggs!
ReplyDeleteWith Palmyra Delran, who now has a show "Trash Pop Treasures" on Sirius XM Underground Garage CH 21, and has released several fine albums.
Smash hit single: "Bad Word For A Good Thing"

Here's their page: "The Friggs - Topic"

I played "Friggs Theme", a flip side instrumental at 33 ⅓ by mistake, and it was still great!
Heh. 😎
DeleteHey, that's a good girl garage band– anybody who covers 'Shake' knows the score. And while I have the floor, I'll laud NOBRO, shishi, Hinds, Automatic, Wet Leg, the Velveteers, the Beaches, and even Veruca Salt.
DeleteAre Kid Sistr the nieces of Twisted Sister?
ReplyDelete- Paul in DK
After the Bangles, it is sorta just also rans. I wouldn't save they are faves, but The Slits should get a mention (had a guy drummer though)
ReplyDeleteI like The Lunachicks
ReplyDeleteidk pretty shallow pool here for this topic.
ReplyDeletemaybe Pussy Riot would qualify ?
No love for the Surfragettes? 😎
ReplyDeleteMott the Hoople in 1972-3.
