I won't debate whether it is over-produced, but the songs are golden, and it's main offense is being a great album that happened to be preceded by a masterpiece.

Dave FDavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03743825684303825072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8921382.post-36347323672170190152017-01-11T14:46:44.890-05:002017-01-11T14:46:44.890-05:00just going to say that, as a resident of bayou cou...just going to say that, as a resident of bayou country, "Levee Town" is the definitive Landreth album.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8921382.post-88414202791533053632017-01-11T14:09:50.045-05:002017-01-11T14:09:50.045-05:00I recall being in complete agreement with the Trou...I recall being in complete agreement with the Trouser Press review saying this album had too much whiny slide guitar. Huge MC fan by the way (saw him deliver a great live "Valerie" this past spring). This seemed to be the beginning of the end of his major label career. I've seen him do it live a couple of times, along with the tender, "Since His Penis Came Between Us".

Most know that Landreth was the guitarist in Hiatt's backing band, The Goners. So the connection is natural. I got hip to Sonny around 1987 when he toured with Hiatt in The Goners. Incidentally, Hiatt's previous 1986 touring band featured Ry Cooder on guitar. Hiatt's backing bands varied, but were all of extreme high quality. For me, a Hiatt show wasn't just about him, it was also very much about the band.

Landreth isn't that great of a singer but his unique guitar style and ability make up for it. South Of I-10 was a pretty good album.

I'd recommend "Love Gets Strange: The Songs Of John Hiatt" an 18-track compilation of his songs recorded by diverse artists, a few of which Hiatt never released on his own. Crenshaw's "Someplace Where Love Can't Find Me" is included. I see it in the bargain bins often. If it's cheap, snag it.

got landreth LIVE with derek trucks if you want it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v874XP7o7oQ

Crenshaw is great. But I don't think Good Evening is one his best albums.

VRAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8921382.post-6277593974782239272017-01-10T16:22:45.437-05:002017-01-10T16:22:45.437-05:00All three of these cats are sublime.
