I seem to recall a couple of those type of reviews from that era... being a young proto-punk smartass at the time (I think I bought the Runaways elpee the same day as the first Ramones album, which was also the day the Modern Lovers record - the version with Jerry Harrison - came in the mail(, I just wrote them off as the sad advancement of old age. :)dave™©https://www.blogger.com/profile/15303249276504183167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8921382.post-33301808072754209562009-12-23T23:47:05.163-05:002009-12-23T23:47:05.163-05:00Yes, they were awful. That guy was all over the place in the 60s, and an argument could be made that he was as influential as Phil Spector.

He also put out a nasty little song named "Bubble Gum" on his own in the 70s that's worth looking around for (it rips off The Kinks, beautifully). You'll probably want to shower after listening to it.

Fowley was the youngest dirty old man in showbiz, but he knew his shit.

I admire Jett/the Runaways from afar, the music just don't move me.Noam Sanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14078219408896745687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8921382.post-65510465108022142712009-12-23T10:30:37.075-05:002009-12-23T10:30:37.075-05:00I went to a post-gig Ramones press party once, at ...I went to a post-gig Ramones press party once, at the pool hall next door to the Academy of Music on 14th street. Late 70s, I guess.

Not sure if the pool hall is still there, given the gentrification of the neighborhood.

Anyway, Joan Jett was there, shooting pool with some other tough chicks, as I recall. Right up front, with Cherie and Joan spitting and sweating on me (I sound like Kim Fowley) No but really that was the one. The music was amateur, but as you said, us twenty something letches couldn't take our eyes off them.

As for the biopic, should be a little interesting, especially since I saw the real thing. Shannon probably had to take off some weight for the role. He was also good in Shotgun Stories.FD13NYChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14964671671960423199noreply@blogger.com
