From
Goats Head Soup in 1973, please enjoy
The Rolling Stones and their tip of the hat to The Dark Overlord of the Flies "Dancing With Mr. D."
As always, a coveted PowerPop No-Prize will be awarded to the first reader who gleans its relevance to the theme of tomorrow's Weekend Listomania.
Album covers that make you lose your lunch?
ReplyDeleteI'd never seen that one before. Looks like an outtake from Guy Peelleart's "Rock Dremas," but I don't specifically recall it.
ReplyDeleteTepid Rehashes by a Group or Solo Act of Their Earlier, Better Songs?
ReplyDeleteLester, IIRC, didn't much care for "Exile," either. And he had some valid points...
ReplyDeleteAll I'm gonna say is I think it was Lester Bangs who said of this song that "it's about exactly what you're hoping it's not really about."
ReplyDelete:-)
Talk about on the nose!
ReplyDeleteI remember the Stones did videos of several "Goat's Head Soup" songs, including this and "Angie" (natch), and I think "Silver Train." Saw them, IIRC, on the then-syndicated "Rock Concert" show, but I can't remember if Don Kirshner was involved with it at that point.
ReplyDeleteAngie was definitely with Kirshner.
ReplyDeleteOK, I looked it up and I'm embarrassed to say the Stones appeared on the PREMIERE EPISODE of Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think I'd remember that...
Songs that people I respect like but I found tiresome and pretentious when it was released and feel the same way now?
ReplyDeleteSongs whose titles include gerunds and initials? :)
ReplyDeleteSongs that refer to Satan in the title? I love this song and the album.
