The band in question, on Jools Holland's program, in 1992, doing "In World" (probably my favorite song from their reunion album of the same year).
I hadn't seen this clip before, but it's very hard to watch it without concluding that these guys may have been the greatest live rock band ever. Jeebus, what a sound and what a groove.
A rare, and brilliant combination of head and heart.

ReplyDeleteSteely Dan? California.
ReplyDeleteThe Band? Toronto.
Velvet Underground? The Dolls? The Ramones? You know how I feel about that scene.
Hendrix? The band came out of London, although Band of Gypsies was from NYC.
I still say the Blues Project, but when Television were at their peak...hoo boy.

I betcha Los Lobos could do a great version of See No Evil.
ReplyDeleteThe greatest band to come out of New York probably had Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, or John Coltrane in it.
