Solomon Burke's "Cry to Me" (written by the late great Bert Burns).
As performed last Friday night at the Mad Dogs and Dominos show at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.
Guess how old the woman singing it is?
P.S: I was seated directly in front of the area of the stage where Lulu was performing. Fortunately, a certain Shady Dame was able to physically restrain me, or else the back of my head would have been visible in the clip throughout.
She gives the answer here: http://youtu.be/dwmcNzm166I
ReplyDeleteThanks, MJConroy, for that link!
ReplyDeleteGreat performance.
Here's the first one she did --- "Unchain my Heart":

I can testify that Simels has had a serious "Jones' for Lulu since the mid-sixties!
ReplyDeleteCold showers will help a little good buddy.
With John Leventhal there, was Rosanne Cash there?
Allan R.
she's really cool.
ReplyDeleteLulu is an international trio, so grossly neglected in the U.S. It's great that she is still looking and sounding so great.
ReplyDeleteTo me, her masterpiece is "Oh Me Oh My." While searching for a link I found this video, which seems designed for a television show. This is not the original vocal, but extraordinary nevertheless. Sometimes the best performance consists of looking straight into the camera, and belting with all your heart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb4W6Hkji_A
