Your Wednesday Moment of Words Fail Me: Special Just Rattle Your Jewelry! Edition
An eclectic group of contemporary artistes, via the BBC, recreate the 12 hour session that produced The Beatles'Please Please Me album. In real time.
So good to see this BBC4 production, which I knew nothing about. Started watching on my PC, and then shot it to my TV, where my wife and I then watched PLEASE PLEASE ME – RE-MAKING A CLASSIC in its entirety.
I was impressed by Mick Hucknall, Ian Broudie (if you want to see a list of GREAT albums, look at the titles Broudie's produced, including CROCODILES, by Echo and the Bunnymen), Paul Carrack, Tilbrook and Difford of Squeeze, and Beverley Knight, who was new to me, among others. And of course, the Shirelles, as a source. I also like how Graham Coxon of Blur said, “Anyone who doesn’t like The Beatles is weird.”
On a side note, I always thought that Squeeze, along with XTC and Stackridge, were the bands that best picked up on directions The Beatles may have taken had they stayed together.
