From 2004, please enjoy the incredibly great Ian Hunter and his rendition of the venerable "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square."
A song I'm beginning to think it may be impossible to do a bad version of.
Oh, and BTW, the reason I'm bringing all this up is because I heard Dennis Day sing it on an episode of the old Jack Benny radio show the other night.
Yeah, yeah. I know.
Just too hard to watch knowing that Ian's career may have ended.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean.
ReplyDeleteHunter's version is so wonderful because it's fucking Ian Hunter singing the song. My wife and I saw him sing the piece at a NYC show sometime within the past 10 years, with a different preface about his Mom, which too was wonderful. Few artists can do between-song patter like Hunter does.
ReplyDeleteAnd I too hope that Hunter can overcome tinnitus. Other artists have, but few at Hunter's age, which is now 79.
Very nice, Steve.
ReplyDeleteI really miss the original line-up of Mott the Hoople. One of my favorite bands.
