An Early Clue to the New Direction

From 1986, it's The Housemartins and their reedily annoying tender love operetta "Sheep."

A coveted PowerPop No-Prize will be awarded to the first reader who divines the clip's relevance to the theme of tomorrow's Weekend Listomania.

  1. Hmmm...two possibilities:

    Totally sexless music videos

    or

More examples why white people shouldn't dance

  2. All good guesses, and I'm gonna steal them for future lists.

    But wrong!!!!!

  3. How I stopped loving and began hating British Rock & Roll. All true. Musical acts like the Housemartins stand for everything I dislike that has come out of the British Isle in the last 26 years. Lifeless, sexless and without a soul. The last great act to come out of England was the Pretenders and they were led by a hot babe from Akron, Ohio. Hi Steve!

  6. How about the mediocre first bands of people who went on to better bands?

(Zumpano would also work in this regard.)

  7. how about...

songs with titles that have been used before?

  8. I beg to differ about Zumpano being mediocre!!

  9. Songs about animals (at least nominally) by bands named after animals (martin, a type of bird; although I don't know what a housemartin is)?

  11. Kid C,
Well, I like Zumpano myself, but there's no question that the New Pornogrpahers are far superior.

As are the Beautiful South, but then I don't mind the Housemartins, either.
