M.L.K. Day, 2008
I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.
It's amazing that a song Nick Lowe wrote, at least in part, as a send-up of DFH's has come to be taken as unironic, even passionate anthem. But it's somehow fitting, in a weird way...
I got a cool download of Nick doing a quiet, acoustic version of the song from YepRoc, Nick's current label. Nick sings it straight in the solo acoustic version.
The chords are very similar to Won't Get Fooled Again.
A few years ago a friend and I went up to Vancouver to see Elvis, as we're both big fans. Before driving back to Seattle, we had time to drive around the park and wander around a bit. Naturally we came across this spot. But neither of us recognized it from the video clip. D'oh. Not one of our finest moments.
A little late, but regarding your lament below about record shops going belly-up: at about the same time, this article appeared in the SF Kronk about an all-vinyl store that's doing big biz.
Also, while technically maybe not "independent" (both are small-sized chains), and Rasputin are doing just fine out here in California... Rasputin, in fact, seems to have moved into quite a few of Tower's old locations.
