Anybody Got a Good Recipe For Crow?

What did I say about Smashing Pumpkins last week? "I think it's time we all faced facts -- these guys may well have been the most pompous, pretentious gasbags in rock history."

Then I heard this song, which could have been on the White Album, fer crissakes.

I owe that pompous, pretentious gasbag Billy Corgan an adult beverage.

  1. I will say this, they always manage to recruit some damned cute bass players.

  2. Can't listen to the vid as I'm at work.

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.

  3. yeah, I always was kinda fond of Gish and Siamese Dream.... later, not so much.

Although the new one has a bit of a bite to it.

As long as they ignore Corgan's most self-indulgent impulses, I always thought they did okay.

Good man for admitting when you might be wrong.

  4. What a beautiful arrangement, and cool song. Too bad Billy C is singing it, his voice bothers me.

There is a future list for you Steve, "Great Band, Lose The Singer."

  5. Trey --

You're reading my mail. I was sort of working on a list of "huge bands without one really good or even interesting singer."

Kiss and the Grateful Dead spring to mind....

  7. I was thinking the same thing...Billy Corgan may have one of the worst voices ever. A combination of whine and wheedle, all grunged out with an XXL layer of pomposity on top.
