Davis, who apparently was a sort of less lucky version of Lulu or Cilla Black, was previously unknown to me, and to be honest, after discovering this clip the other day, I'm still not sure I'm ready to download her complete mid-60s ouevre (if you're so inclined, of course, there's a link over here).
That said, however (and those who know me well have probably already guessed this) but sweet Jeebus, was she ever my type.

Great. I never heard of her either, but I agree this is a great '60s clip. Perfect quality too.
ReplyDeleteI knew I recognized this from somewhere. It's from a rarely seen British Invasion movie called "Go Go Mania". Many British acts of the day, even The Beatles. It's only available on a bootleg DVD floating around, great quality (I have it). Wiki for more info. Superb stuff!

And...
I liked it.

If this gal had emerged in the Lady GaGa era, we'd be seeing a lot more of her, if you know what I mean. I'm guessing that the reason she fell off the face of the earth is because, like SS, some well-to-do guy took one look at her, fell madly in love, and got her out of show business so fast it made her head spin. (The song does not auger well for the rest of her catalogue, - mash up of "Fever" and "This Train [don't carry no gamblers]".)
