  7. Even though I'm not an over-the-top Beach Boys fan, this video clip is rmarkable.

  8. The only accomplishment of Mike Love's I appreciate is his punching out Murry Wilson.

  9. Brian must be in a good place. Not a trace of "crazy" in his eyes.

  10. Goosebump territory.

And I assume that's Al's kid doing the falsetto.

  11. Muy bueno. Makes me think of trips to the Bahamas and hitting the water in a 16 footer. My seventh grade mixed sextet performed this for an inter-school speech & music festival. Our female choir teacher used to punch us in the gut to make sure we were singing from our diaphragms. We got a Blue Ribbon: Superior award, which was the best. This remake is wonderful. Al rules.

When we rehearsed we'd sometime throw in the mystery verse:

    The stewardess she got stewed,
Ran 'round the poop deck nude
Constable had to come and take her away.
Sheriff Johnstone please let me alone
I feel so breakup, I want to go home.

  13. This will conclude our lesson on why nepotism (i.e. asshole cousins) in the workplace should be avoided for optimum results. Brilliantly done. Brian has found his perfect storm of a backing band with the Wondermints and the sturdy and faithful Al Jardine helping to raise the bar once again on this recreation of the definitive version of this song. I don't know how many of you caught this, but one of my favorite concert DVDs was never released on DVD. It's a 2005 (I think) appearance at Glastonbury of Brian Wilson with The Wondermints backing him. The BBC filmed it and, apparently aired it a couple of times. I found it on a newsgroup binary thankfully. I made a copy for a friend who also is a huge fan. He actually made a copy and put it in his safe deposit box! Al's son pushes this one right up there close to the original on this version. Thanks Steve for posting this.

  14. Mike Love is a dick, BUT, you really miss his perfect reading of the line "This is the worst trip, I've ever been on." A truly sophisticated appreciation of the Beach Boys call for the acceptance of Mike Love and all his assholedom as essential to the Beach Boys formula -- just as each of us is an dick in our own ways, and that element of our personalities is as basic to our self as our Al Jardine "good guy" and Brian Wilson "victim-genius" sides.
