Darkness on the Edge of Your Whatever

You know, in retrospect, I think that my contemporaneous review of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska, which I posted yesterday, was a little harsh.

That said, this song -- which Bruce wrote and gave to Gary U.S. Bonds at the same time he was toiling on said album -- is just...uh, what's the word I'm looking for?


Oh yeah. Better.

    So obviously a Bruce song --- reminds me of "Livin' in the Future" on "Magic"

    No argument with "better."

    As much as I respect Nebraska, I don't actually listen to it. Ghost of Tom Joad, Devils and Dust, Seeger Sessions: you can have 'em all. When rock artists go the acoustic route, I'm inclined to tune out. A song or two? Sure. But an entire album? What did I ever do to you?

    As much as Seeger Sessions was better than it had any right to be, if he did a Vol. II, I swear I'd head to NJ and, as our esteemed host is so fond of saying, take a hostage. IMHO, that record was the very definition of "unnecessary." (The live show was fun, I will admit. But, were he to do that again, see "hostage" above.)
