La Fin de la Semaine Essay Question: Special “The Family That Plays Together” Edition

From 2023, please enjoy Colt Clark and the Quarantine Band and their wise beyond its years rendition of The James Gang's 1971 hit "Walk Away."

Oh god, those kids are great; I could watch the one on the right nail the Joe Walsh guitar solo forever. I should add that they have several other equally priceless videos up; I'm particularly fond of their take on "We Got the Beat," which behooves beholding as well.

But now to business. To wit:

...and your favorite (or least favorite) post-Elvis pop, rock or soul group with members related by blood is...?

Arbitrary rule: No such groups with members related by marriage need apply.

Discuss.

And have a great weekend, everybody!

  22. Poolside with tequila, tacos, Modela Negra, electric sangria, my "famous" enchilada casserole, Sandy's exquisite chile rellenos and all the trimmings. What a gorgeous 80 degree day to have friends over. Crowd is aware I'm on laptop and is shouting out suggestions. So, this is a drunken group effort.

Already mentioned but, just for the record, my top choices are:

    The Beach Boys
    The Kinks
    Creedence (pre Mardi Gras)
    Allman Brothers Band (1969-1971) (1999-2014)

Worst: De Franco Family, Rascal Flatts, Aly & AJ

Rick and the Ravens might top that:)

But I could have whipped out The Greenwood County Singers which included Van Dyke Parks and his brother :)

The Knickerbockers were the house band at the Red Velvet in Hollywood the last four months of 1965. I actually saw them there when I was ten. My uncle took me. Roy Head was the headliner and we were big fans of "Treat Her Right." Knickerbockers played several sets including "Lies" which wasn't out till a month or two later. They were a great live band. Roy Head & the Traits were even more outstanding. That fucker really put on a show like a white James Brown. It was pretty crazy. "Treat Her Right" should have been Number One. But unfortunately, there was this McCartney guy believing in "Yesterday."

As far as the Knickerbockers are concerned, check out Bear Family’s “A Rave Up with the Knickerbockers.” Not essential, but cooler than you’d think.
