I don't think NYMary will disagree when I say that this blog probably wouoldn't have come into being had it not been, to a significant degree, for Twilley and the records he made.
I've said it before, but this death shit is really starting to piss me off.
Another of my favorites gone :-(. That's a great clip. Sadly, I never got to see Twilley perform, though I did catch Phil Seymour ages ago.

I saw the DTB in'76 and him solo about 20 years ago. Like Hank Williams, he could write a song you'd be singing along with the first time you heard it. With his catalogue of great tunes (and his good looks), he should have been a household word. The American McCartney.

ReplyDeleteOne of my musical heroes! I connected with Dwight through FaceBook, and became friends with him and his sweet wife Jan over the course of the past 18 months. We talked on the phone about our dogs, music, and my houseboat here in Kentucky named "Route 66." Just a few weeks ago we had set plans in motion for Dwight and Jan to visit Kentucky and get some "Kicks on Route 66" next summer. So sad!

ReplyDeleteThat’s the music biz, but I could not figure out why DT didn’t achieve a bigger audience. While power pop wasn’t the biggest thing when he started, it was very much a growing trend.
ReplyDeleteSad news. The first time I heard “I’m On Fire” my hair stood on end and I simply had to play it again six times in a row. Then I got to “England” and was at least as gobsmacked. Should have been huge…
