Today's Cartoon Chuckle
From the current issue of The New Yorker.
Dont know who the cartoonist is, but if his art career runs into problems, he's got a gig somewhere as a rock critic. 😎
speaking of songs expressing the depth of despair, i thought of keith reed, lyricist of procol harum - and then went on to think of one of the later songs, "fellow travellers" - music is organist matthew fisher's arrangement of handel *************** "Fellow Travellers" - based on "Lascia Ch'io Pianga" by George Frideric Handel (Fisher, Reid)
This life is a journey From shadow to shadow We are all fellow travelers To the end of the day
This life is blindness Fill it with kindness Love marks the times as We pass on our way
All of us needing Something to believe in To be the best we can
This life is a fable From the grave to the cradle A slow dance through the dark night To the sweet light we crave
All of us needing Something to believe in To be the best we can
This life is a journey From shadow to shadow We are all fellow travelers To the end of the day ************
this morning, as beloved spouse got out of the car to get on the metro to go to the office being demolished by the cruelty of those now in charge of our government - and who knows if today is the day she too will hear she is dismissed? - i reminded her to be kind to her colleagues
missus charley is a believing church goer - i am a fellow traveller who admires jesus very much and attends religious services with a unitarian universalist attitude but has a skeptical attitude about the next life or lives, if any - i don't believe all the things she does but I do believe that love is the answer
Speaking of 'And Your Bird Can Sing,' word just came down that Marianne Faithfull has passed away at age 78. As the man says, this death shit is really bringing me down...

DeleteSounds as though the song described in the cartoon could be this generation's "Lick My Love-Pump" :-)
