La Fin de La Semaine Essay Question: Special "Double Entendre Help Me Rhonda!” Edition

From somewhere live in 2016, please enjoy the paralytically sexy Pink covering Jefferson Airplane's classic "White Rabbit."

Seriously -- how come none of you bastid kids ever hipped me to that clip before I accidentally discovered it last week?

I should add, and I've said it before and it still behooves repeating, that yes, I have the raving hots for that woman -- who I've never witnessed in concert, alas. Also alas, I know that if we ever, er, actually got together in a carnal sense I wouldn't be able to survive the foreplay, and that's not just because of my current advanced age; if we'd hooked up when I was as young as she is now, she still would have killed me. 😎

But that being said, and with no further ado, it's onward to the weekend's thematically related business. To wit:

...and the contemporary/post-90s/21st century pop/rock/r&b/folk/country solo artist or group you regret not having seen live, and would in fact sell someone near and dear to you to obtain tickets to a forthcoming show if they're still active (the artist, not the person dear to you😎) is...???

Discuss.

No arbitrary rules you're welcome very much, except I'm gonna be strict about the "nothing before the Aughts" thing; this is strictly post-classic-whatever. And if you've read the above you already know who I regret not encountering in person (yet).

Of course, my second pick would be THIS woman, who I also had the hots for. And alas, of course, it was not to be. 😎😎

But in any case -- who is/are YOUR choice(s)?

And have a great weekend, everybody!!!

  1. Hmm.... post-aughts. Right about the time I said the hassle of going to concerts outweighed the enjoyment. Maybe Arthur Lee's post-jail resurrection of Love would have been worth it.

  2. hmm - if I restructure the question to "who are currently musically active women whom I consider extremely attractive as well as enjoyably musical" then a couple of sister acts come to mind - the MonaLisa Twins - I loved their video with John Sebastian on a very apt sog of his - and also Larkin Poe. And outside the temporal parameters you stated, but worth mentioning as a beautiful soul, inside and out, and a very gifted songwriter - Dolly Parton.

Long, long ago, with my first real college girlfriend, I went to a Joni Mitchell concert. And speaking of blasts from the past, did I already mention here that I told a niece and nephew at Thanksgiving that I was born when Stalin and Churchill still walked the earth? I am a time traveler, but on foot, not by machine:

"Trouble, trouble, trouble whirling all about,
But if we stick together we can stick it out.
Will we ever find the loves we lost again?
Does this crazy journey ever have an end?
Will I find what I'm after? Do I know what I'm after?
Guess I'll join in the laughter on the Road to Utopia."

  3. Boy, do we ever have different opinions of who is a sexy woman! (I even thought Pink was gay!) Precious few newer acts on my to die for list - I'll go with Dea Matrona, in hopes they do a U.S. tour someday.

    1. I don't think P!NK is gay. Married to a man for 20 years, two kids.

    2. You may recall Get My Self Arrested ("me and my friends in my BMW"), and they did a grand cover of Getting Better, but everything they did on eight albums plus some compilations was excellent. One of the most overlooked bands of the last 30 years.

  7. I would love to see Molly Tuttle. Several friends have raved about her gigs. Talent to burn. https://youtu.be/Frkz9CymIR8?si=xOk3dZiyzmMhH1vP

    2. This is why I heart this hear blog. Every week brings a heretofore (for me) unknown rabbit hole. Molly Tuttle and her friends are stunning talents breathing life into traditional forms. And as Dice Clay said, with understatement, "she's a cute bald chick."

  11. I would love to see the Raveonettes (started in 2001!) in person, and not just because Sharin Foo is one of the hottest women in rock - I love their “one-third dreampop, one-third noisepop, one-third surf” aesthetic. And they’re managed by former Brill Building songwriter/co-founder of Sire Records/member of the Strangeloves Richard Gottehrer!

As a fan of the blues, the Tedeschi Trucks band is on my “gotta see” list, and Susan Tedeschi is definitely easy on the eyes. Derek Trucks is certainly one of the top slide guitarists playing today too.

Sticking with the “attractive female” motif of Steve’s contributions, the Regrettes certainly qualified, and wore their powerpop influences on their sleeves while making some infectious riot grrrl/powerpunk songs; they may have broken up though :-(

And diverging from the “attractive female” motif…I’ve seen the Raconteurs once, and am hoping to see them again - the best band that Jack White has been in, and one of the top rock bands of the 21st century. A pity it’s a side project of Jack White and Brenden Benson, not their main gig.
