Bastards of Young

And speaking as we were yesterday of Paul Westerberg, here's a trailer for First Avenue: Heyday, a music documentary I'd really like to see.

Every generation gets its own Cavern Club, apparently, and in the mid-80s First Avenue in Minneapolis hosted the likes of the Replacements, Husker Du, Soul Asylum, the Jayhawks and (my personal cult favorite) Trip Shakespeare (a coveted PowerPop No-Prize to the first reader who can tell us the connection between TS and the folks at Mystery Science Theater 3000).

Why isn't this on DVD?

OK, I found the TS/MST300 connection, but I so cheated. It was not something I knew, but something I found. So no prize for me.

Speaking of Trip Shakespeare, I made a bunch of money on eBay selling their discs which I found in the one dollar bin for $20 or more a pop when Semisonic hit it big.

It's because the prop guy, Jeff, was titled Toolmaster after the TS song Toolmaster of Brainerd

And I didn't have to cheat on that one.

If you'd like, I can burn you a copy of First Avenue: The Bootlegs. A great CD of stuff that had been recorded there since the club's inception.

And as for the doc itself, it's only been playing around town in theaters or clubs as part of greater festivals (movie or music), or as a part of a fund raiser.

Duncan Black is evidently Mayor of Chicken Town.

Hey, Dog Burner! Heard that you chickened out on your duel. I'm not surprised.

I'd love that CD. I'll burn you something cool in return, obviously....

A duel? I'm talking about Atrios banning me again.

I'll bet you love you some crushed dissent, don'tcha?

Oh, and cool blog, Simels. I need to come around more often.

I'd prefer not to ban you here, so leave your Eschaton issues over there.

You wanna talk music? Talk music.

Otherwise, please get lost. My patience is obviously gonna be really thin....

FYI: Because the Replacements, Husker Du, Soul Asylum, the Jayhawks are all middling to bad bands.

None of them are in the same league as the Beatles.
