Tales From the Mohammedan Menace Part II

Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla is apparently a terrorist.

Kudos to the Department of Fatherland Homeland Security for decoding the secret messages encrypted in the above video.

Vigilance!

Damn it, Steve, this post is just going to bring the bedwetters back to tell us of their feverish dreams about living under the yoke of the caliphate.

I have an OT question wheech I am certain can be answered by the knowledgeable group of blogeros that hang here.

I am een the process of making a slide show about The Joseph Family and project Hope in Grace.

I need a good suggestion for a song to put behind the slide show.

The song needs to be somber, yet hopeful, somehow.

Roadmaster over at Azul Bebe' Gigante suggested Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" wheech would work great, but maybe sometheeng a leetle more upbeat...

¿Any suggestions for music I could use?

In the anti-war argument, the obvious path following 9-11 was – in addition to focusing on root causes – doing all we could to prevent attacks here.

Is your logic widespread among your kind? If so we can assume, with regard to specific activities actually constituting prevention, that the mandatory non-sneering period is voided when agencies are given names that could be deemed creepy, and when any functionary anywhere makes a mistake out of overzealousness. One must be zealous, but to the precisely correct degree: never, ever investigate potential terror clues unless they turn out to be valid. And certainly it is beyond the pale to fail to recognize a courier service for the very famous band, um, this important and famous band involved here.

As a corollary, when writing about outrages of overzealousness as they come tumbling in, be careful not to bother investigating what might have actually been the cause. Assume it’s the political content of the songs.

Address later if at all the suggestion that were anti-W content the cause of overzealousness, there would be mighty few non-confiscated hard drives belonging to alternative rockers anymore.

One thing about the left, in general on the web, is that the content-free insults are frequently related to sexual or other naughty themes. It's as if an individual's overwhelming repulsion at the right taps into a deeper need to vent in that way - to be able to freely release words like "pee" and hump" and "bed-wetter" and "blow" and so on. It would be interesting to research that further.

No need to research further anon. It's simply that you are incredibly lame. No more, no less.

BTW, I thought you promised to never come back? Was that a real promise or a Republican promise?

Different annonymous.

This one's wrongheaded, but I have no problem with him.

Department of Domestic Security would have been the appropriate name.

The Bushies use of Homeland instead was a deliberately Orwellian affront whose fascist overtones were calculated. As far as I'm concerned, the first thing the Dems should do once they take back the presidency is change it.

Ostentatiously.

So let me get this straight. You approve of censoring political content?

I dig Walla's quote at the end of the article...

"But I made this record because it felt irresponsible for me to have a platform for what I'm thinking and not use it. And not just to do political songs. If all I wanted to do was cover Air Supply songs, I could've done that too."

steve simels said...

Oh god, that's priceless.

I've never really paid much attention to his band...I think I may have to now.

Well, they are called DEATH cab for cutie. I mean, that must be some kind of islmofascist code right?

(the above is an attempt at humour just in case it is a little too dry)

Kid C,

No. Either I write again or you read again.

To summarize your response: “And so ladies and gentleman of the jury, may I suggest to you that you have heard a lot of real fancy words here today from my esteemed opposing counsel. No doubt. But may I remind – beg you – to return to the basic issue here, which is simply this: he is a bed-wetter and he is very lame."

S,

It is a horrible name, I grant you that. Your view of the reasons for the name at least has the benefit of brushing up on the edge of plausible simply because of that horribleness: why would they choose that? Are they simply tone-deaf, or actually full of darkness?

In a tiny microcosm of what frustrates me about the peace-preferring left, I doubt you've actually researched the genesis of the name to discern if there's a more mundane explanation. Instead you toss out an accusation like that, providing one more small reason for you and other liberals to refuse, as a moral imperative, ever to address the substance of what the administration and its defenders and non-haters have to say.

Overseas, the sum total of the entire effect of all such beliefs has an impact on the US’s image generally, not just the people you disagree with.

But the name should be changed, although it would be interesting if we were treated to a debate on what constitutes “too creepy" in a bureaucratic name. I’d also say that any name can take on tones of creepiness if the agency’s actions support it. Eastern bloc names were all pretty bland, right?

Frankly, yeah.

I really don't want to belabor the point, but I'm operating from the assumption that every single major player in the Bush administration -- hell, in the national Republican estabishment -- is either corrupt, incompetent, crazy or some toxic combination thereof, and therefore nothing that they say or do can be trusted or taken at face value.

I think you're naive to think otherwise; you probably think I'm paranoid.

Let's leave it at that, and talk about music instead.
