PBS has auto-tuned Mr. Rogers -- and I actually kind of like it!
True story -- the first time I ever saw Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, I was in my late twenties, when I stumbled into my living room on a Saturday morning, somewhat bleary eyed from a, shall we say, active night before. I remember staring at the TV screen watching this guy in a sweater talking really slowly, and wondering if he was on drugs or if mine hadn't worn off yet.
Seriously -- it took me half an hour before I finally realized it was a kids show.

Yes Mr. Rogers, I have grown things in the garden of my mind. But I must say, watching this made me miss you. Even if you really aren't a war hero.

I worked at a PBS station for years and was exposed to the show that way. His piano player Johnny Costa was a MONSTER.
Now and then Fred would showcase his musician friends including first-class guitarist Joe Negri (who played Handyman Negri on the show),as well as Eric Kloss, a blind sax player who was also awesome.
Fred Rogers was way cool. 'Nuff said.

One of my instructors in college told us that if we ever wanted to hear great jazz piano on a daily basis, catch the closing credits of Mr. Rogers.
