From some time in the mid-Nineties, please enjoy -- in breathless wonder -- the incomparable Laika and the Cosmonauts and their twangy neo-Ventures take on the be-bop classic "A Night in Tunisia."
Incidentally, if you're not familiar with Laika and company, they are clearly Finland's greatest contribution to music since Jean Sibelius.
Seriously -- if you don't have the album pictured above, your life is the poorer for it.

This is great stuff, must look into more. Good post!
Love it.
Compare and contrast:
Laika and the Cosmonauts - "A Night In Tunisia" (1990)
The B-52's - "Planet Claire" (1979)
And both an enormous debt to...
Henry Mancini - "Peter Gunn" (1959)
You can definitely surf in Tunisia! This song co-opts so much stuff in such a short time that it's kinda brilliant. Purrfect for your next Pulp Fiction or Psycho Beach Party.
You may not be able to catch a wave in Finland, but it's all in the mind, ya know. At least most of the pissis are shaving their legs now:-) After all, the next best thing to a space monkey is a bad little space doggie. This bitch likes it. A lot.
Vickie Rock - And you don't have to deal with the Mexican wrestling masks.
