And Speaking (As We Were Last Week) of Great Beatles Covers....

...from her 1994 album Wild Seed, Wild Flower please enjoy former Arrested Development songstress and proud Jersey girl Dionne Farris and her shall we say idiosyncratic cover of the Fabs' "Blackbird."

She over-souls the song in spots, but I think overall the interpretation works. And speaking of working -- anybody have any idea where this woman has disappeared to?

Since this is tee'd up, let Rev. Al Green knock it out of the park:

1- Re: DIONNE FARRIS. After a period of inactivity, she has put out three albums recently, starting in 2007, including two on her own Free & Clear label.

2- If the AL GREEN song in question is his cover of the BEATLES' "I Want To Hold Your Hand", then I agree, he does knock it out of the park. Incidentally, this song originally came out on the flip-side of one of the singles from his first album for HI Records, GREEN IS BLUES, way back in the late 1960s. "...Hold Your Hand" was not included on the original vinyl LP, but has shown up as a bonus track on some CD reissues of the album.

covering the Beatles? A loser's game. Unless you're Stevie and completely re-work "We Can Work it Out."
