Somebody Stop Me Before I Tell That Sarah Silverman Joke Again!

And speaking as we were on Friday about great songs with one word titles, I'd forgotten how much I liked this 1985 classic by The Hoodoo Gurus.

I bring this up partly because, thanks to one of our regular commenters, I just heard this 1986 (outtake) cover of the song by The Flamin' Groovies.

I should add that I find it characteristically weak-kneed, like most of the Groovies' well-intentioned studio covers. And I say that as somebody who saw them live on the 1979 Jumpin' in the Night tour when they were doing a relatively convincing version of The Byrds' "Lady Friend."

The Hoodoo Gurus are criminally underrated outside of Australia. They continue to make good music and their five or six albums are all worth your time.

Yep, the Gurus cover is better on account of the guitars being more prominent, IMHO.

"Mars Needs Guitars" is a hell of an album.

the PF Sloan tune "Bittersweet" by Milwaukee's Robbs (from "Where the Action Is") is great too. I always have trouble posting links here but the 45 came with a nice picture sleeve featuring a beautiful Rick 12-string. Investigate!!

Hello all...no, please remain seated,

My new favorite one-word song is a remake of the old Classics IV song from from 1968.

Stormy by David Dennison and the Non-Disclosures.

An incredible song by any measure.

Dave Faulkner has quite the track record between the Gurus and his earlier work fronting Perth's premier punk outfit, the Victims. "Television Addict" is an absolute scorcher of a record.

Cool, I'm finally a positive influence on somebody!

I can thoroughly recommend Ampology, a 2-disc compilation of prime Gurus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ampology
