Nancy's Record Collection (and Mine): Special "Great Lost Singles of the I'm Not Sure When" Edition

From the classic 1999 Yellow Pills (Vol. 1), please enjoy the incomparable Adam Schmitt and his shoulda-been-a-smasheroo "Speed Kills."

I can't recall if that was newly recorded for the aforementioned compilation, but in any event it sounds timeless.

Which is to say -- has there been a better power pop song by anybody ever?

I suspect not. 😎

His "Can't Get You on My Mind" is pretty darn good too! https://youtu.be/0OKN5rDh-0Q?si=KXhzBWnsSuYKYTYi

We had dozens upon dozens of promo copies of his first CD, that we couldn't sell for a buck...until I played it. Then we sold a bunch.

Sorry. But that honor belongs to “Silent Treatment” by the Weasels.

HIs first album is pretty much power pop perfection from start to finish.

I wouldn't call this one power pop, but I've always been blown away by it, especially the solo by the late, great Tommy Keene at the end. One of my favorite Schmitt tunes.

"Has there been a better power pop song by anybody ever?" No doubt, a rhetorical question. But I'll answer it directly- the title tune from that august compilation, by Tulsa's 20/20, certainly qualifies. Even moreso, the note-perfect 'Cheri.' I saw the immortal Dwight Twilley about 20 years ago and Ron Flynt was playing bass. When I yelled for his magnum opus, he shot me a dirty look (hey, it was Dwight's gig!).
