I've been meaning to post this since I discovered it two weeks ago. About fricking time, Steve.
Yep, it's Graham Parker and the Rumour with "Nobody Hurts You" from Squeezing Out Sparks, one of the most emotionally resonant and viscerally exciting albums ever made.
Keith Richards famously observed that on any given night somebody somewhere is the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world. Obviously, there were many nights in 1979, as GP and company toured that album, that they more than deserved the accolade....

Thanks, Steve. If that's not my favorite song of all time, as well as my personal theme song, it's definitely in the top 5. And how cool is Brinsley Schwarz?
I didn't know live video of anything from that tour existed. What a treat to find it...
But you're right -- what a song, and Brinsley is the coolest....
It pleases me greatly that Graham is still around, and recording for Bloodshot, of all labels. The last album's pretty good...

GP & The Rumour made the greatest live record ever, "Live at Marble Arch". It was recorded back in 1977 in front of a small audience of radio types and journalists, and was a released as a radio-only promo album. It finally showed up whole as part of a 2-disc best-of called "Vertigo".
An amazing record, and almost nobody heard it.
"Squeezing Out Sparks" is one of the best records of the 70s.
"Sparks" is one of my all time favorites. Thanks for the memories.
Wow, and I have not transfered ANY of their records to my iPod.
The shame!
Thanks for another PowerPop blog nudge to spend the time to upgrade my music.

Ahhh, SOS!! Unquestionably a watershed moment (I seem to remember some joker at Stereo Review claiming it was "the first great record of the eighties"), but it still places second to Heat Treatment imo. Both are in heavy rotation on my iPod.
