From 1967, please enjoy nice Jewish boy Neil Diamond and his poignant Brill Building classic of inappropriate urges, "Girl You'll Be a Woman Soon."
As always, a coveted PowerPop No-Prize will be awarded the first reader who gleans the clip's extremely oblique connection to the theme of tomorrow's Weekend Listomania.

classic of inappropriate urges
heh.
Songs of dubious moral content?
No, but that would be good and I may steal it.
Songs about growing up?
best hair?
PS. A local casino is advertising the upcoming appearance of "Garfunkle and Oates." Must have been quite a meeting when they decided top billing for that one.
songs with an underage subject?
my next thought was original songs which were knocked into a cocked hat by a subsequent cover version.
I actually liked Neil D. up until around "Song Sung Blue".
His live set "Hot August Night" was good, also.
Songs with "Girl" in the title.
Puberty?

I'm going to come out of left field and guess Jewish artists who changed their names. I'm thinking this way because I just became aware of the existence of Essra (Sandy Hurvitz) Mohawk.
Songs that would be better without the last chorus.
Artists performing live on TV with nice backdrop scenery? Or, songs about older pervs wanting young girls.
All very good guesses, but no. As I said, this one's really a bit oblique.
The clue is in the title -- specifically the relationship between girl and woman.

I assume you saw the post of her album over at Redtelephone66 the other day?
I did. Didn't download the album, however, as the description in the post made it sound just about unlistenable. Looks like she went on to do better things.
Songs about getting older?
And when I say the relationship of girl to woman -- it's a wider metaphor for something else.
Songs about growing up.
Trey
DOH! BG got it way first!
Songs with varied references to females in the title?
Songs of the future?
Trey
Songs that ache just like a woman but break just like a little girl.
Songs about little girls reaching puberty? Little girl singers becoming adult singing stars? Brenda Lee, Tanya Tucker, Lorrie Collins etc...
It's a metaphor for something else. Not literally about the whole girl to woman thing at all...
Songs about transformation

In a sense....
Neil Diamond's very very long career? (kidding) Bands that started young and made it big? Female bands maybe?
Artists transforming from good to schlock?
What midnight caller said, but the other way around:
Songs that heralded artistic maturity?
Songs which were popular for two different (and widely separate) generations?
Songs performed by one artist early in his career and another late in their career?
Getting closer...
It's about bands. And the people in them...

Notable replacements in rock bands (e.g., Mick Taylor replacing Brian Jones)?

Getting even closer...
:-)
Child is Father to the Man....
Bands that Al Kooper passed through?

Child is Father to the Man....
Hmmmm...Notable band members with offpring that became notable band members, or notable musicians?
No, no...so close in so many ways.
:-)
Ah well, I said it was oblique.
