Baby That is Rock 'n' Roll: Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!!!

Okay, and getting quite a bit closer to the mission statement of this here blog than we have in the last couple of days, here's power pop god Adam Schmitt and, from 1993, the catchy as all get out and equally kinetic confection that is "Speed Kills."

NOT a drug song, obviously.

I said something similar earlier in this series, but if this one doesn't make you want to run around in your room jumping up and down like a fool then there is, quite frankly, no hope for you. Just an amazingly wonderful track.

I should add that it first saw the light of day on the now (sadly) out-of-print compilation Yellow Pills Vol. 1, which also features music by some band called Shoes. I'm not sure why that name is ringing a bell.

Great stuff, and new to me. I don't know what the hell I was doing in the early 1990s. I wasn't working, was I?

I wore out every damn Yellow Pills volume. They were part of my conversion to power pop fanatic.

Schmitt's LP, "World So Bright," is an indisputable power pop classic.

Check out his song "Three Faces West" for one of the all-time great guitar solos, courtesy of one Tommy Keene.

It's funny that Yellow Pills vol 1 doesn't have "My Yellow Pills" on it.

Is that the same white-noise effect NRBQ used on ... what was it? "Me and the Boys"? "Green Lights"?

Power Pop's "Bad Motor Scooter?" :-)

This is almost too purrrfect. But can you really get too much of a good thing?

Yellow Pills inspired many of my most enjoyable and memorable housecleaning sessions.

Like I always say, no matter what you're doing, "Do it with the music on and lust in your mind."

It's the new "Whistle while you work."

Sadly Schmitt's CD's have wound up in the bargain, no name bins. But at least you get more bang for the buck.

OK, you got me started. Now I gotta hear something equally energetic with a little more huevos. "He's a Whore" will be a good start.

Dance and shake with abandon when you vacuum, girls. And be sure to reward yourself liberally when you're done with your chores.

Keep it exciting.
