An Early Clue to the New Direction: Special Yipes, the Clothes in the 70s Were Really Hideous Edition

From 1975 somewhere, please enjoy -- yeah, right -- the infernally cutesie Olivia Neutron-Bomb Newton-John as she asks the musical question -- "Have You Never Been Mellow""?

To which I can only reply, in the immortal words of Woody Allen in Annie Hall: "If I get too mellow, I ripen and rot."

In the meantime, a coveted PowerPop No-Prize© will be awarded to the first reader who guesses its relevance to the theme of tomorrow's Weekend Listomania.

Songs that advocate use of marijuana? (hoping for Low by Cracker)

Good lord. How is it possible that pair of jeans can make a woman as hot as Olivia Newton John look awful?

No, no, and no.
:-)

This one's pretty much impossible to guess, I think, so try not to kill me tomorrow.

I'm hoping it's a top 5 songs by Olivia Newton-John, personally...

But my guess is it has something to do with "worst dressed bands of the 70's" or something like that...

Songs With Awkwardly-Placed Negative Modifiers in the Title?

... hey, it could happen.

Dammit, Dave got there first.

The 80s were MUCH uglier than the 70s.

Olivia Neutron-Bomb, and lots of other cheezy stuff aside, the Seventies weren't that bad. I liked wearing hot pants with nearly knee-high boots. It was a great look. The high-waisted flares weren't so bad either. Halter tops, and tube tops were made for action. Used to shop at Judy's, Red Eye and the Wild Pair at the mall. They had everything from April Dancer to Nadia Cassini. Still, I mostly just wore tight tank tops, cut-offs and beach dresses with thongs.

Later, there were satin shorts and bomber jackets:-). I still have a pair of seldom worn silk disco pants that my mom bought me in the late 1970's. I whip 'em out occasionally for theme parties.

A guy I used to mess around with was engaged to a girl who looked just like Olivia in this Midnight Special video. I mean spittin' image. She was a good Christian girl who was saving it for marriage. Her idea of rock and roll was Pablo Cruise while his was Aerosmith Rocks. Naturally, he insisted on absolute discretion.

Imagine my delight when I found out that his girlfriend was boinking the hell out of a local bar band's bass player on the sly. I never told either one anything. They've been married over 35 years now. Wonder if they ever came clean with each other?

Artists with three or more names, one of which may be hyphenated, like David Clayton-Thomas?

Honestly. And I have a feeling those Seventies silk disco pants should be worn by someone who wasn't actually around in the Seventies.

:-) Thanks for shining your "light". But I still rock those pants.
