You know, as a friend of mine said the other day, I'm a sucker for this kind of thing.
And so -- please enjoy the late great Ray Manzarek explaining it all to you.
I'm not a Doors fan particularly, although I like lots of their stuff, but I gotta say -- the above just knocks me out. He makes it look just so damn easy.

Great footage of Manzarek recording keyboards for Weird Al's Doors' "homage" "Craigslist". It's all in his head! :O

Started watching this and couldn't stop. Manzarek's storytelling while playing is hypnotic. Three unrelated things come to mind. One is that I've been listening to a lot of Horace Silver lately. When Manzarek said, "Gotta put some jazz to it" (where IT meant RIDERS), that's e-x-a-c-t-l-y what he was doing on this track, and it was in a Silver-ish sort of way. Another example is Manzarek's keyboards on my favorite Doors track, BREAK ON THROUGH. Absolute killer stuff. Second is that watching Manzarek 'splain Riders alongside Robbie Krieger reminds me why The Doors, at their best, were the best for a brief period of time. The third is that Manzarek's speaking voice is just about as unaffected as anyone's I've ever heard.
A musician friend of mine said "The fact that he sings it like a pianist makes me love it even more."
:-)
Fuck that was great! I love creative process videos and that is one of the best. I was totally sucked in.
I'm going to have to play both that video and then the song on "Lost at Sea". I've always liked "Riders on the Storm" but after the video I love it.
Thank you Eric and Steve.
