Surrealism in the Arts (An Occasional Series)
I should stipulate up front that I was never more than a casual Sparks fan back in their 70s heyday, and I haven't seen the current movie documentary tribute to them (although I hear it's terrific). But damn -- that's the coolest soundtrack album cover art I've encountered in ages.

Well, if you're gonna be art-rockers, it helps to have great art...
I saw them this past weekend in Chicago; the band was tight and the audience just radiated love. They are on a tour that must be grueling (hey, they're in their 70s) and they put on a fantastic show. I highly recommend you catch them in New York early next week.
I wasn't that big of a fan but knew little by them but the doc is great and made me realize how great they are.
I caught them on a TV special and John Lydon ( Johnny Rotten)was their frontman definitely an "interesting " presentation
Sorry... never "got into them." For a "rock or pop" band, if you are unlikable in your optic and sonic presentations, you've lost your audience.
I remember seeing them on "In Concert" or "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" back in the day. Never bought any of their albums but my brother told me about the doc and I checked it out. It's very good not only as a documentary but as a nice trip watching a band slog through time in relative obscurity but persevere. Amazing that they are still touring and have a nice cult following. All with a smile and a smirk!
Also, not a big fan. I think I had one album by them but, the doc is fantastic.
