Celebrity Joni Mitchell Impressions (An Occasional Series)

From just the other day, please enjoy charming millenial movie star Amanda Seyfried (and Her Magic Dulcimer©), as she essays Mitchell's classic "California" on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

(The music starts at the 3:58 mark if you want to skip the usual show-biz banter leading up to it.)

But seriously -- that's quite impressive. That kid can really sing.

I mean, yeah, it's not as good as Robert Downey Jr. covering "River" (on Ally McVeal, in 2000)...

...but what is? 😎

Seems a shame that Fallon didn't let her play the whole song- she clearly knew it.

Why would Fallon let Amanda sing while she was stealing screen time from him?

Amanda Seyfried is clearly the frontrunner to play Joni in The Joni Mitchell bio pic yet to, but surely to be made!

Downey's performance of River remains a touchstone for Actor/Musical performances for me.
Thanks for reminding me of A/McB.

Just listened to Amanda's California rendition of Joni's song - that woman has the chops and a beautiful voice. Blue, a top ten in my collection and she was spot on note for note.
When I lived in Maine, my girlfriend another beautiful blonde, played Dulcimer ☺️

Seyfried's dulcimer playing isn't stellar, but the singing? Out of this world terrific.....

Simels knows what he's talking about on Seyfried's dulcimer playing. He played lead dulcimer with The Hounds! Bass dulcimer with The Floor Models! Dull dulcimer with The Weasels!
