I actually saw that when it was originally broadcast and I remember a) thinking that it was an absolute genius bit and b) almost falling off my couch laughing.
I should add that the extremely funny black woman who's bracing Pryor at the beginning of the clip is (another) ground-breaking L.A. stand-up comic -- Shirley Hemphill, who went on to star in both the sit-com What's Happening!! and its later syndicated sequel What's Happening Now!!.
You know what? Seeing stuff like the above again, it occurs to me that the '70s were actually a lot better, pop culture-wise, than their current reputation suggests. 😎😎

From the '70's, I always liked Barney Miller. Good ensemble, well-written. Many recognizable character actors would make appearances.
That show was brilliant. I especially liked the season when Jack Soo, Steve Landesberg and Abe Vigoda were all on together -- three of the greatest deadpans of all time. 😎

Funny skit. The Pips seem to be enjoying it, too. Barney Miller was a favorite of mine, as well.

That's a hoot. The Pips parts on Midnight Train are excellent. Coolto hear them isolated.
"I know you will..." The Pips bit put the all-day smile on my face- not bad for a Monday. Perhaps that decade has a shabby reputation with some because of 'That 70s Show.' Aside from Topher Grace, the loathsome behavior of its other young stars left a taint.
Having the unattended mic on stage was sheer genius. I had tears in my eyes.
Some of the best comedy, TV, movies and music was whelped in the 70s, and, as you were there for it (as was I), you shouldn't oughta haveta be 'reminded' of that.

But they overplayed it by cutting away to it. Should have just been there as if it was a perfectly normal part of the show. Still funny overall.

Please don't take this in the wrong way but this reminded me of Bill Harder (SNL) skit talking to the empty chair.
ps - actually saw "The Pips" in a Motown Tour on the Stars (late 60's)
