Royal Pains

Got tickets to see The Artist Formerly Known as Symbol Guy tonight. At the Garden. Never seen the little freak live before, believe it or not; in any case, could be a hot one.

Although I doubt he'll do a certain theme from a movie he was in the way Big Daddy did it.

Incidentally, not a lot of people know this, still, but there is in fact an official pronunciation for the supposedly unpronounceable glyph Prince used between 1993 and 2000.

"Schmuck."

You're welcome.

Actually, I wanted to put up the original "Little Red Corvette" clip -- back in the 80s I desperately wanted to be Dez Dickerson, his sidekick guitar player with the headband.

But I'd forgotten that Prince or WB or somebody has gotten just about every real Prince clip pulled from YouTube.

Saw Prince 3 1/2 years ago at the Garden.

Simply one of the best concerts ever. That little freak can do it all -- write, sing, dance and play any fucking instrument you put in front of him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- I'm willing to bet he has a Batpole in his house.

I saw him at the Garden a few years ago, too ... the stage was in the middle of the floor. Kick ass band, and you can't take your eyes off him.

And the stage tonight is gonna be schmuck-shaped. :-)

Enjoy the concert.

Sandra Bernhard did a plaintive version of Little Red Corvette in her Without You I'm Nothing show (backed by Ivan Julian on guitar), when she originally did the show in the East Village. I'll have to settle for that.

And it works! (Delighted laughter.)

I had to laugh when he was a "slave" to his record company and released scads of lackluster stuff on his own. Then he had that comeback with "Ta-Dah" a major label. Back into slavery once again.....

Dez Dickerson ended up working in the contemporary Christian industry. That's all I have to say about that.

I took my somewhat confused wife to see the Purple One back in '95. She didn't get why I wanted to go until I told her "He is all that he is, but I'll his band will be nothing short of amazing." They were & he was. My wife, she dug it. Oh, Larry Graham opened doing 45 minutes of Sly covers. Nice treat.
