Don't Look Now, But I Think There's a Bustle in Your Hedgerow

The Doors -- yes, them -- do to "Stairway to Heaven" what perhaps always should have been to done to "Stairway to Heaven."

Okay, it's actually some smartass doing a parody of the Doors doing "Stairway," but it's no more obnoxious than the Frank Zappa version.

It made me smile.

One of my favorite bits of rock criticism came from Mike Nelson, of MST3K.

He noted that Jim Morrison sounds like everybody's dad singing in the shower.

Hey, Steve: That Doors-esque version of "Stairway" appears with a whole heap of other versions of the song on an album called Stairways To Heaven. It contains 22 (yes, 22) versions of the song (including the Doors-ish one). If you're feeling brave enough, you can hear them all on my blog here.

Peter -- it's from that album? I should have known.

I love the Rolf Harris version, actually...

I love Rolf's version, too. But I love almost all of them. I think Stairways To Heaven is a mighty fine album.

My favorite is the version I heard on Dr Demento back around 1978: the music of Stairway to Heaven with the lyrics of the theme to Gilligan's Island.

Too.

Damn.

Funny!

And I like Frank's versions of the song. Especially the throw away little overly loud guitar snippets he would add in the early verses.
