The Unreleased Beatles Album: Part I

Interesting news from EMI -- as a followup to the Apple/Apple roll-out of The Beatles catalog to iTunes, they're also releasing, at long last, some of the vault stuff from the Fabs that fans have been clamoring for all these years.

First up next week: George Harrison's legendary solo album Lifting Material From the World (1969)

From the EMI press release:
"This album brings out a rather curious side of George Harrison's personality, which is perhaps related to his obsession with money. George recorded this album in disguise, didn't tell any of the rest of the group about it, tried nonetheless to get it released through Apple, and then lied about everything it involved when the whole sordid business came out."

TRACK LISTING:

My Sweet He's So Fine
My Sweet White Christmas
My Sweet Fair Lady
My Sweet Michelle
My Sweet Bobby McGee
My Sweet Lullaby of Birdland
My Sweet Beethoven's Ninth Symphony
My Sweet Greensleeves
My Sweet Ave Maria

Also out next Monday: John Lennon's primal screamer Fuck Me? Fuck You! (1970) [cover not shown]

From EMI:
"The big break-up brought a number of albums by John in its wake, of which this was the only not released. It consists entirely of John screaming at people."

TRACK LISTING:

Fuck You
Fuck Your Mother
Fuck Your Wife
Get Fucked
Fuck You Where You Breathe
Ah, Fuck
Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuckfuck Fuckfuck

Act Nautically
This Bouy

The great collective unconscious--I've been doing an eBay search for the last week to find a cheap copy of that absolutely hilarious Beatles' issue of Lampoon. "My Sweet He's So Fine" still kills me.

I've been trying to get those fake covers for ages. Rabbi Saul and the Red Album are on Google Images if you hunt, but this one and the one I'm putting up tomorrow have been scarce....

I think the Beatles issue is the only issue of NatLamp I still have in a box somewhere.

"I resent performing for you fuckers!" - trust me, that lyric comes in handy in a lot of places...

And we cannot forget that faux Lennon track "Genius is Pain" that was lifted, basically word for word from his Rolling Stone or Playboy interview.

Remember when satire would attack even the Beatles?

Good stuff.

Being a tribe member, I'll never forget Rabbi Saul. I still chuckle when I see the actual Rubber Soul cover thanks to Natl Lampoon.

As for that particular issue, if you absolutely must have it, you can knock yourself out here:

Great issue. The McCartney autopsy was pretty good, too.

Didn't that issue include albums by other artists, too? I'm remembering a Simon & Garfunkel album with the cut, "I Am A Schmuck, I'm From Long Island."

Like Shriner, I'm pretty sure I have that magazine in a box in my attic. I'll have a look this weekend, and do some scanning if I find it.
