CBGB (the Movie Trailer)

This looks pretty good, IMHO.

Alan Rickman as Hilly? He actually kinda has him down.

i must be from another planet because this looks like a big fat turd. i admit that there's a very good chance that i am wrong but i have a sneaking suspicion that this will have absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

I'm sure it will lack redeeming qualities, but that doesn't mean it won't be fun.

You are free to stay home. As for me, I lived down the street from the place for 14 years, and I think this is going to be a trip.

didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. guess i'll leave the cool kids table to the cool kids.

i used to live a couple of avenues over too, not sure what that has to do with anything.

Looks kind of interesting, considering all the famous bands that came out of that great shit hole. Saw a lot of acts there. Wow, imagine, even The Police played there.

Most movies about rock 'n' roll suck. I usually end up cussing at the screen till I can't take it anymore and walk out. Will this one be any different? Probably not.

Rickman goes from Harry Potter to Ronald Reagan to Hilly Kristal? How good is this guy? Casting and script are everything. Stana Katic as Genya Ravan? Kyle Gallner as Lou Reed? Taylor Hawkins as Iggy Pop? Sting's daughter as Patti Smith?

Methinks it doesn't bode well for this flick. Though I don't know jack about the director/writer's previous work. It'll out be just in time for Trick or Treat.

Nostalgia.

And you came over here, out of the blue, and pissed. Then you have the nerve to get huffy?

The Runaways movie was pretty great, actually. So I'm crossing my fingers for this one.

The Runaways features some fine performances by its leads, that's for sure. Overall I enjoyed it. It was my, then sixteen year old daughter and huge Runaways fan, who dragged me to the theater. I expected the worst because I know too much about the subject matter. But my daughter's enthusiasm intrigued me. She's generally got pretty great taste in films.

The writers chose to focus on Jett, Currie and Fowley, so I cut them some slack. A lot of it is loosely based on Currie's book so I figured it was coming from that perspective. I got into the spirit of the film, flowed with it and ignored its flaws.

Nevertheless, this movie is far cry from being historically accurate. And that's where I have problems with it. I realize the limitations of trying to capture the full story in a film and the historical license that it often necessitates. But not even a quick walk on for the equally beleaguerd Jackie Fox? Was there a legal problem? Kari Krome, who inspired Fowley and introduced him to Joan Jett, might have gotten at least a namecheck. And on and on.

But, on the whole, I liked it. The soundtrack was pretty effective. It certainly was a lot better than Oliver Stone's insufferable Doors movie. And, though not a biopic, don't get me started about the wretched Pirate Radio.

With regard to Jackie Fucks (Fuchs/Fox) not being in the Runaways film: From what I understand she had some issues with Joan and refused to cooperate with the filmmakers.

That's why in the script they have this totally fictitious bass player named Robin. I've read that the producers said they used this character as a composite of the band's many bass players.

However, during Cherie's stay in the band, Jackie Fucks was the bass player for 99% of the gigs. They both quit the band around the same time. That was the end of the Fab Five.

I saw them play the Whisky with the Weirdos in the late summer of 1977. I did not know that Cherie and Jackie had quit. I was disappointed with the show because of it.

Oh, and just because wet T-shirt contests came up a while back, I figured I'd share this photo of Lita in her baby fat days.
