I have been weeping non-stop since I heard the news. Obviously, that's partly because I'm sensing my own mortality, but goddamnit I loved his music and he was too fucking young to go. Just saw him in concert last August and he was spectacular.
Aw, fuck.

And you just featured the Chris Hillman album he produced ...
Saw him at the Hollywood Bowl 10 days ago - Tom and the band were in fine form, a great tight show.
Extremely sad to hear this, especially on top of the Vegas shootings.
Update: He ain't dead yet. "Clinging to life." Stay tuned.
Wikipedia called it. :(
This is beyond depressing.
Remember when you said: "Deez guys is good" in Stereo Review. Heh Heh Heh I remember you were alright too.
Eh, A.C. Library: I recall too SS's "Deez guys is good" review in Stereo Review - Confused. I thought SS was referring to The Byrds at the time. Got the bands mixed up - maybe Petty's McGuinnesque vocals did it. Shocked by Petty's passing - way too young. What happened? Found out another Stereo Reviewer (and musician too) Noel Coppage died way back in 1982. Don't recall that.
Saw Tom last year at The Ryman with Mudcrutch. It was a very special show in a special place now more so. Steve got the attention of my young ears in Stereo Review like no other critic. Turned me on great stuff. Tom just kept being vital and we're all in a bit of shock I think. Thanks Steve for being one of the long running torchbearers, I mourn with you.
