Are You Experienced?

Oh dear lord.

Here's the second place finisher in Saturday's Iowa Caucus, Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, performing 60s metal classic Born to Be Wild with his band Capitol Offense.

Apparently, this is why he came in second to Mitt Romney.

To be fair, he's probably better on bass than Clinton was on sax or Nixon on piano.

The singer is heinous, though.

Wow you are right about the singing.

And everyone knows that the His Satanic Majesty prefers Kiss and Dio.

I've never heard anyone do a good cover of this song, frankly, and I'm not even a Steppenwolf. The Cult's version in '87(?) was passable, if uninspiring, I suppose.

It's strange how such a simple song can be so difficult to re-create.

Ripley, that song is SO deeply in our brains if we are of a certain age that we can recognize it by the timbre of the opening rim shot. I think it is the timbre and texture of the original recording that makes it almost impossible to recreate. our brains may recognize the piece of music, but we also recognize that it is not the performance we know and love.

To cover it, you would have to best it by rocking harder. Good luck to anyone who tries that.
