From 1978, and featuring the remarkable Graham Maby (one of the tiny handful of interesting instrumentalists to come out of the New Wave movement) on bass, here's irrespressible tall guy Joe Jackson and his charmingly acerbic "Sunday Papers."
As always, a coveted PowerPop No-Prize will be awarded the first reader to glean the clip's relevance to tomorrow's Weekend Listomania.
Definitely not holding my breath this time....

Lead bass songs?
I am with you about Maby, he ruled those first JJ albums. Not that Joe is a slouch, but the bass was key.
Same thing with Elvis, but Bruce had Steve as a foil and Maby was more important melodically I think.
Trey - who is limiting himself to one lame guess
Songs with really ugly shoes in the video?
Songs about/with references about newspapers/ the news?
ROTP(lumber)
Rock songs with reggae/ska grooves?
Songs mentioning a day of the week in the title or lyric and please don't argue with me about this
Uh, no, no, no, no and no.
:-)
Songs about things that are about to become extinct?
And I agree, Graham is great! That's why I have that album (the 2 disc 10" version with the button!)
Musical acts with strongly talented sidemen?

Okay, how about a hint....
Hmmm....
It has something to do, as you might figure, with newspapers. Something that you learn if you want to write for one.....
Who,What,When,Where and How?
Something that you learn if you want to write for one.....
Songs about poor career choices.

2/12/2009 9:41 PM,
I curse you for your pernicious influence!
Actually -- no "how" -- why! 5 Ws!
But yes, that's close enough, and your coveted Powerpop No-Prize is wending its way to you by carrier planaria as we speak!
This is a dream come true. I'd like to thank the Academy...
