From 1963, you WILL enjoy Die Jungen des Strandes and their classic ode to teen angst -- "Ganz Allein."
It really is such a beautiful language.

Steve, this is funny, yet cool. Where did you get this? Do you have anymore? Could you send some over? Along with an autographed copy of The Joe Franklin Show book? Talk to you soon. The West Coast was super!
FD13NYC, unfortunately the website where I found that cut had 3 others it claimed were German Beach Boys tracks, but they sounded like (pretty poor) imitators, not the real thing.
There was no question about this one, though. As Mrs. Gummo said, you can't mistake those harmonies!
Thanks for the info Gummo. A shame there isn't more. Even The Beatles did 2 of their songs in German, for real. Would've been funny to hear I Get Around sung from Deutschland.
Man, this is ugly in German. But it brings to mind something that I don't recall you've ever covered in your "anxiety of influence" series: The fact that the Beach Boys pretty much built on a platform that was already well developed by the Four Freshmen. But for some reason, back at the time, while we were going mad for the BB's "Young Man is Gone" and "Surfer Girl" we thought the Four Freshmen were utterly barfworthy. Could the presence of Mike Love in the vocal mix make that much difference?
They could sing in Anterian and it would still be wonderful.

California Uber Alles!
Too bad this wasn't included in the soundtrack of Valkyrie.
And no offense to anyone (especially my mother), but I bet the Capitol executive who pitched this idea was Jewish.

This wasn't uncommon back in the day; see this, for example.
The Supremes in German?
The ironies abound....
:-)
German. A great language to shout orders in.
Didn't the Blues Come Down From Boston? I swear I think I heard that.
