An Early Clue to the New Direction

From 1965, [corrected -- S.S.] and the epochal For Your Love album (at least in America), please enjoy the most blues-wailing Yardbirds and their inimitable rendition of "I Ain't Got You."

As always, a coveted PowerPop No-Prize© will be awarded to the first reader who gleans the song's relevance to the theme of tomorrow's Weekend Listomania.

And incidentally -- for the life of me I can't figure why that Yardbirds album cover looks so familiar. Oh, well, I'm sure it'll come to me.

Alter-ego Fudley Correctol has surfaced: Yardbirds For Your Love LP is from June 1965, not 1964. I bought it when it was brand new at White Front. Got Beatles VI, Summer Days (and Summer Nights!!) and Them's debut on the same trip. Since I only had a Hamilton, I had to borrow three bucks from my beloved uncle, who drove me there. Seems like all of these albums were released around the time school let out for the summer. Bitchen times! It was the summer of Satisfaction and Out of Our Heads. I can still smell the coconut oil. Me and Sandy were already stuffin' it like Beverly Adams. Our first truly guy-crazy summer. Prick tease was our newly acquired sport of the season, as neither one of us were "givin' it up" beyond a generous second base yet.

Excuses for Vicki to regale us with her sexual exploits?

No, no, no and no.

Okay...here's one more sort of clue, because I love you all more than food.

It's something a little more...romantic.

Jai Guru Dave --

I like Mark's choice. That'd be a long list.

I'll take a stab at it and say songs about unrequited love.

And VR pretty much nails it close enough.

Vicki, your coveted PowerPop No-Prize is wending its way to you by carrier hamster as we speak.

And as we all know, be careful where you stick that hamster.

It'll be my snake's supper. He can also swallow it whole. Me, I stick to mammals my own size, sometimes bigger. :-)

I had a friend who was a registered nurse involved in the surgical removal of a large eggplant from a guy's ass. Afterwards she told him to stick with butternut squash.

Speaking of Richard Gere, I had a boyfriend named Vince who was spittin' image of him. He also had a brother, Glenn, with the same great looks. They coulda been twins but were two years apart. I took the older one and turned Sandy on to the younger brother.

They were both handy around the house. A plus. Virile men, they were. And sometimes we'd get 'em mixed up. Vince had a small crescent shaped mole on his perineum. I called it "The Mark". They were our Wednesday night guys for a coupla years till their jobs made 'em move.

This was in the UCLA occult days when Sandy and me bought that house on Malcom with the proceeds from the two kilos of pot we moved every week. Yes, we were student homeowners and entrepreneurs. A variation on the American Dream. With a large swimming pool, even.
