Historical Context

Oh, you yank my chain about my obsession with 1979: Shoes, The Cars, even The ubiquitous Knack. But let me remind you what was common "entertainment" in 1979.



I stand legitimated.

(Credit where credit is due: this was an entry in the recent bad video blogwars, possibly from Sadly No!, though I honestly don't remember. Whoever it was should be ashamed of themselves.)

I'm not gonna go into my lengthy thesis on how "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" is one of the most sublime lyrical triumphs in the history of rock, but if you're interested, Simels might be able to recall it...

Oh, dave, do tell. You think it's a subtly ironic take on male sexuality? Or do you think that the conditional mood of the song ameliorates its ickiness? I'm genuinely curious.
