Monday Moment of Words Fail Me: Special My Son the Folksinger Edition

From 1972 and the Gaslight Cafe in Greenwich Village (then as now a hole in the wall dive), please enjoy a very young Bruce Springsteen in a wide belt and work shirt telling it like it was.

Have I mentioned that words fail me?

THAT'S ROSALITA!

It sure IS Rosalita. Fantastic. But is it The Gaslight or Max's.

I have seen rock 'n' roll future!

Actually, that emcee would never have been at Max's.

Ah yes, those glorious days of the early 70's when everyone was looking for the New Bob Dylan.

Wow, as they say, I guess you have to start somewhere, and if you stick around long enough. I think he's playing a Martin. How could he have afforded one even back then. Now he could buy the company. Go figure.

The kid's got talent. If he works hard and keeps his nose clean, he could be huge.

I like the "spittin' out sparks" lyric, but kept wanting to shout "And your papa says he knows that I don't have any money!"

I'm almost positive that's NOT Max's. For one thing, I don't recognize the emcee. For another, I have enough video of my own crappy bands playing Max's that this just feels like some place else.

Wow, really interesting guitar playing! Kinda modal with a nice folky feel to the strumming.

Long way to that pimp hat he would wear in a while!

Maybe he wore the pimp hat because he didn't wash or shave in the early days. Who knows, at least the music got better, and by Born To Run he cleaned himself up some.

As good an idea as to the origin of the pimp hat as I have ever heard.

I must confess to liking his look with the hat though.

I love how songs evolve, who could have anticipated that this would have mutated into Rosilita?
