Night of the Living Dead

Well, it's Friday, and a certain Shady Dame and I are off to see the original Zombies (minus their late guitarist Paul Atkinson) perform their great Odessey and Oracle album in its entirety this evening.

Eighth row center seats, plus we get to see the soundcheck and go backstage and meet the band (hey -- you get what you pay for).

I will resist the urge to gloat at this juncture. Actually, no I won't. Gloat gloat gloat.

Meanwhile, because I love you all more than food here's a very cool vintage clip of the band, in color and playing absolutely live, on American TV in 1966. And yes, that's Allan (My Son, the Folksinger) Sherman introducing them.

Incidentally, younger readers may be wondering what the hell those dancing ladies are up to in the clip, to which I can only say that the past is a foreign country -- they do things differently there.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

I saw them last year in Santa Monica. Sounded very good. You will enjoy. They played the songs from this album I wanted to hear most that night on the Pier. Report back please...

Will do.

That's killer, Stevie. Blunstone belted it out. He's one of my favorite singers. As you mentioned, the dancing women were a little strange.

Just saw them last night in DC. Did the meet & greet, too. Enjoy! IT was a great show. Seen them several times the last few years with the touring band, it was a treat to see the original guys. ANd CHris and Hugh exceeded my expectations. Plus a nice bunch of guys!

My wife and I saw them in Athens, GA, a little over a year ago. Colin's voice was still amazing, and Rod was still sporting the mojo. Have fun, Steve. I'm jealous.

Wow. Allan Sherman seems thinner and less dumpy in this clip than I remember him. Hippodrome was a great show. A summer replacement series for The Hollywood Palace. I remember the Small Faces being on another episode. That was kind of exotic in the US at the time. Unlike those dancers. Somehow they managed to look stilted and frigid while sliding a boa between their legs. Never thought that was possible, but this proves it. In this case, they're the ants and the Zombies are the picnic.

Good luck with your show. I have much experience seeing this band. Even in 1965. Always enjoyable, but sometimes better than others.

VR - still belly up and bummin' at Swami's. Too much fun to leave.
