If memory serves, that's from Mark Shipper's PAPERBACK WRITER, which is an alternative-history bio of the Fabs and the funniest rock-and-roll book ever written. Out of print since forever, alas.

i'm wondering if you'll delve into the life and times of someone important in the biz about whom one hears less than complimentary things - people want to write and perform music, make a living and find fortune and fame, bring artistic renditions to the public - in the process of doing that darker forces also shape behaviour - carrots and sticks, metaphorically - triumph and tragedy - it's your blog, steve, do what you think is best
