Once Upon a Time in the Weinsteins

The main title music (the soundtrack album drops, as they say, on December 18) from Ennio Morricone's score for the new Quentin Tarantino flick The Hateful Eight.

From what I can gather, the film -- a tribute to the spaghetti westerns whose music Morricone pretty much defined -- is not, like Tarantino's last two, some kind of wonderfully demented revenge fantasy (although that remains to be seen, as it were). In any case, the overture (also as it were) is, as you can hear, atmospherically creepy and easily recognizable as the work of its composer.

I should add that a quick visit to Wiki has led me to learn that this is the five zillionth score of Morricone's long and distinguished career.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

I get a "Twilight Zone" vibe from the tune. Not the TZ theme song, the background music of some of the episodes.

Kurt Russell ... yum. One of the last real men in Hollywood. I would love to have him do some renovations to my home. Couldn't wait to show him my shower head.

VR - Or treat him to some of my delicious honey whip spread.

A few years ago the Motion Picture Academy did a lifetime achievement tribute to Morricone. Then they ruined it by having Celine Dion come out and sing something to him. The man achieved goddom for The Good The Bad and The Ugly, why did they make him suffer through Celine Dion?

I think it was one of his songs she sang. But someone added lyrics. The syrupy Alan and Marilyn Bergman. I wonder if Ennio approved of this before, during or after? Anyone know?

I drove Kurt Russell to and from the set on a movie in the late '80's. He was easy to deal with and even laughed at my jokes.

BBJ: Yeah, he's a real nice guy. Not high falootin' whatsoever. I've met him and Goldie at several concerts over the years. Once, at the House of Blues in Hollywood, I sat right next to Kurt in the small 12 seat V.I.P. section with Goldie on his other side. My old man was in the standing section.

The club let me sit there because I was 8 1/2 months pregnant and the rest of the venue is standing only. I just treated them like anyone else and got sociable. They were both really cool and down to earth. Goldie asked me if she could smoke. I told her no problemo. I'm not one of those paranoid, brainwashed squirrels that think a few wisps of smoke are gonna hurt them. I'd have lit one with her if I wasn't PG. But that didn't stop me from having a glass of wine, or two.

Kurt wasn't creepy at all. You could tell the two of them had a solid relationship just from their self-assured vibe. It was all very comfortable. I had been skydiving earlier in the day and told them about it. That's when I discovered that Kurt was a licensed pilot, like myself. That sparked more conversation. Just great people.
