From 1994 and his debut solo album Soma City, please enjoy downtown guitar god Kevin Salem and his astoundingly brilliant "Lighthouse Keeper."
Seriously -- that's as perfect a guitar-riff-driven should-have-been smash single as I've ever heard.
I should add that when the album/single (I believe it was on Roadrunner Records) first came out, my brilliant friend and then colleague at Stereo Review Glenn Kenny took me aside and said (I'm paraphrasing) -- "Dude, if you like Television [the band], you're gonna dig the shit out of this one."
Boy, was he right. 😎

At the beginning of his 1992 album "CAN YOU FLY", Freedy Johnston has a great autobiographical song called "Trying To Tell You I Don't Know", about the travails of a struggling musician. Kevin Salem plays some very good lead guitar - including an effective solo - on that track. I believe he's also on some of the other tracks on that album.
Kevin Salem....I thought I knew that name (Dumptruck). I own their second LP, not the first which I've heard is better.
Bumming today over the passing of Andy Paley. The Paley Brothers version of "Come On Let's Go" with the Ramones absolutely rules (and is a skosh better than the McCoys' version) and is a perfect example of what your blog is named after.
